Ringing, buzzing, chirping, clicking, if you're hearing a constant sound for which there's no apparent source, you're probably one of the millions of people who suffer from tinnitis (TIN-IT-IS). It's by far the most common ear disorder and frequently a sympom of other ear diseases. Tinnitis can have any number of causes. One is damage to the delicate bones of the middle ear, generally caused by exposure to loud noises. A visit to an ear specialist is the first step in treating tinnitis. There's no cure and drugs are not effective, but there are a number of devices and techniques to mask or reduce the sound to bearable levels.
