WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) -- An 18-year-old Goddard teen is lucky to be alive after his car burst into flames after a crash Saturday.

It happened around 3 p.m. at K-42 and 87th Street South.

Witnesses say the Pontiac was traveling on K-42 at a high rate of speed when it lost control

It left the road, struck a bridge embankment, overturned and burst into flames.

"Fortunately, they were able to get the driver out prior to the car catching fire," said Sgt. Gary Hargus, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.

The 18-year-old was transported to Via-Christi St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries.
