PRATT, Kansas -- A Kansas high school came in second in a regional contest to find the best school mascot in America.

In the USA Today contest, the Pratt High School Greenbacks proved no match for the Chinook, Montana Sugarbeeters.

Mascots from eight states in our region were vying for the title. Others being considered were Golddiggers, Dusters, Wardogs, Swifts, Dogies and Centurions.

But those six mascots had no chance against the top two.

The Greenbacks got about 43 percent of the vote with more than 2.4 million votes.

The Sugarbeeters won with 48 percent of the vote, more than 2.7 million votes. They'll go on to the national competition.
