WICHITA, Kan. -- A 21-year-old Harvey County man was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition after a tractor he was driving collided with a train.
It happened around 9 a.m. at 127th east and 125th street north, near the Harvey County and Sedgwick County line.
Harvey County Sheriff's Department deputies say it appears the Jared Kornfeld was trying to cross the tracks ahead of the train headed northbound.
The engineer blew the train's horn to warn the teen, but couldn't stop in time.
The train managed to stop about a quarter mile down the tracks and the tractor was still attached to the front of the engine.
Kornfeld was flown by EagleMed to a Wichita hospital with severe head injuries and is still in critical condition.
There were no lights or crossing bars at the tracks.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating.
