HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. -- A 19-year-old Harvey County woman was killed Saturday afternoon when the car she was driving collided with a train at NE 48th and Hwy. 50.
Authorities say three Harvey County people were in the 2000 Dodge Intrepid, heading north on NE 48th, when a BNSF freight train, heading east, slammed into the car at the railroad crossing around noon Saturday.
The 19-year-old driver suffered massive head injuries and died.
Her 20-year-old husband was flown to Wesley medical center with critical injuries.
The woman's 17-year-old brother was also in the car.
He was taken to Wesley where he is being treated for head injuries.
Harvey County Sheriff, T. Walton says the railroad crossing did not have flashing lights or gates.
