WICHITA, Kansas -- There are people within our community that give a little something extra to make Wichita a better place to live.
Meet Richard Dixon.
When it comes to giving, this local CEO doesn't always turn to his checkbook first.
"We like to respond quickly to things in our own area, our own region," says Richard Dixon.
The CEO of a family business, owned and operated in Wichita since 1946, Richard Dixon sees it as his duty to give back to the community that's helped P.B. Hoidale Company thrive.
"It's helping people that I see a need for, employees, others," says Richard.
He gives his most precious resource to numerous boards and organizations in the Wichita community.
"Time is more costly than money, it's giving back to the community. This community, we've done well by the community and we feel as a company we need to give back to it," explains Richard.
And he enables his employees to do the same.
"All our employees are given at least a day a year where we'll pay them to do some kind of volunteer work for some organization."
While Richard acknowledges his financial support to community organizations is also important, he knows the pay-off for giving your time to help someone, far out pays any check he could write.
Richard explains, "It just seems that if you go out and help somebody do something physically that there's a bigger advantage both to the person receiving it and to the person giving."
It's for these reasons and more Richard is a Red Cross Hero, though Richard doesn't see it that way.
"I just do things that I think anybody else would do if they had the means and ability."
The Red Cross Heroes breakfast is Thursday, December 12th.
