WICHITA, Kansas -- A Wichita man took matters into his own hands this morning during a home invasion.
Police say the burglar broke into the home in the 3000 block of E. 1st Street just before 3 a.m.
The homeowner met the burglar with gunfire, striking him in the arm. The homeowner then called police.
Officers found the suspect a few blocks away with a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Wichita police don't advocate shooting at intruders, but say that the homeowner appeared to be well within his rights to use force, since the suspect was inside of his home.
"Theres a lot of discretion," said Sgt. Dale Mattern, "but if a homeowner feels that his life is threated, then he has a right to protect himself."
