WICHITA, Kansas -- It was a quiet start to the new year except in the maternity ward.
Neither family planned today as the day, but as they told KSN when you're dealing with babies nothing's really ever planned.
"Thank God that everything came out perfectly the way," says a thankful mother.
An overdue welcome for the Olivarez and Ibanez families this morning as they welcomed Wichita's first baby born in 2013.
"She's happy the baby was born in good health, there were a few complications but she's happy and proud," says mother Brenda Ibanez.
Originally due December 20th, Mike Samuel Olivarez Ibanez will join his big brother waiting at home.
"The first one is crazy, we call him Tornado so we got two Tornadoes now," says proud father Jose Olivarez.
Jose says an emergency C-section gave them a scare, but that disappeared once his second son was safe in his arms.
"It feels great. Best thing in the world. It's the best to have your own family and take good care of them," says Jose.
Just about an hour later, Via Christi got their first 2013 arrival.
"That was the best gift for the new year, to start the new year," says second-time mom Reina El Nabbout.
Baby Leanna was an early arrival.
"It was a surprise, she was supposed to be born January 8th, so many contractions New Year's Eve and the water broke so the surprise came at 2:30," explains Reina.
A birthday that, no doubt, will be easy to remember.
"I just wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope it will be a year of happiness and success for everyone,' says Reina.
Besides our TV crew, both the now-famous babies have been welcomed by numerous excited visitors.
