Death of missing Fort Hays State University student ruled suicide

HAYS, Kansas -- The death of a missing Fort Hays State University student has been determined to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Ellis County Undersheriff Bruce Hertel.

The body of 25-year-old Ivone "Yossett" Martinez, Garden City, was discovered Saturday morning near the Big Creek bridge along U.S. Highway 183 Bypass at the south edge of Hays.

Martinez was located by a search team made up of police officers, fire fighters, and university police.  

A Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft was also used in the search.
