BARTON COUNTY, Kansas -- A Sunday morning crash left a Great Bend man dead and a Topeka man seriously injured.
The wreck happened in Barton County about three miles west of Hoisington.
Police say 42-year-old Richard Newick of Great Bend was heading southbound on US-281 when he ran a stop sign at the K-4 & US-281 junction and collided with another vehicle.
Corey Schwerdt, 28, of Topeka was driving that other car.
The crash sent both cars into the southwest ditch where Newick hit a telephone pole and rolled onto the driver's side.
He was taken to St. Rose hospital where he later died, and Schwerdt was taken to Clara Barton Medical hospital with serious injuries.
