WICHITA, Kansas -- Wichita police say a 58-year-old man was arrested for allegedly starting several fires in trash cans and dumpsters last night in downtown Wichita.

The fires were reported just before midnight in the 200 block of North Topeka.

"Officers observed six separate dumpster fires within a small three block radius," said Lt. Steve Kenney, Wichita Police Department. "Officers observed a David Konert walking away from the area."

Police attempted to question Konert. He ran off.

He was arrested on six counts of arson.

Officers say some brick on a building was scorched in the fire.
