WICHITA, Kansas — A 23-year-old Texas man is dead after he was shot in the head by an acquaintance after opening his front door, according to police. It happened in the 800 block of North Wabash around 9 p.m.
The victim, 23-year-old George Vasquez, Jr., moved to Kansas to escape a violent neighborhood in Texas according to a source who knows both the victim and the alleged shooter.

A 28-year-old man is behind bars and facing first degree murder charges.
He was hanging out at the house with Vasquez and two other men before leaving and returning shortly around 9:10 p.m.
"During that time, the suspect knocked on the front door of that residence. The victim got up and opened the door. Upon opening the door, he was shot in the head by the suspect," said Lt. Todd Ojile, Wichita Police Department.
The suspect was arrested at the scene. Right now, they are still trying to determine a motive.
"We are still looking into it. We have several more interviews, and we don't have a reason yet to why he did it," said Ojile.
A source tells KSN the suspect was “troubled” and “snapped” Saturday night.
