WICHITA, Kansas -- Wednesday was the first of the three day fan giveaway by the American Red Cross.
Already, a line of people kept volunteers busy all day.
Many either can't afford to run their air conditioning or don't have it at all. Those who received a fan say the cool breeze generated makes a difference.
"Twenty dollars is $20, and I'm grateful that it'll circulate the air and help me breathe better and circulate the air in my house," said Jamie Villalpando, fan recipient.
"They've told us it helps out a lot in the summer when some people can't run the air conditioning all day. This is one more thing they don't have to worry about," said Trace Hughes, American Red Cross.
Last year, the organization gave out a record 962 fans and expect to that again this year giving out all of their 1,000 fans.
They are all paid for by generous donations from the community.
The giveaway continues Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. or until they run out of fans.
You can find the Red Cross at 1900 East Douglas.
The Red Cross has given away fans for 15 years.
