WICHITA, Kansas -- The winning Powerball numbers have been drawn and now the wait begins to see if someone won the record jackpot.
The winning Powerball numbers are 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and the Powerball is 6.
In order to win the jackpot, a ticket must match the first five numbers and the Powerball.
The jackpot grew to just under $580 million at the last minute. That's the biggest Powerball jackpot ever and the second-biggest lottery payout in U.S. history.
Lottery officials say tickets were selling at a rate of 160,000 a minute nationwide. That's about six times the volume from a week ago.
A spokesperson for the Kansas Lottery office says Powerball sales in Kansas surpassed $5.25 million by 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Powerball officials say they think there's a 75 percent chance someone will hold the winning numbers.
Some experts say if one ticket hits the right numbers, chances are good that there will be other winners as well.
