WICHITA, Kansas -- A train hit a car just before 11 a.m. at the railroad crossing at 47th Street South and K-15.

A 70-year-old woman inside the car has suffered critical injuries from the collision and was transported to Wesley Medical Center where she died.

Witnesses say the victim's car began to slide before it collided with the engine pulling the 69 train cars.

p "We are looking at the possibility that this may be weather related.  We still have some snow and ice on the roadway," said Capt. Annette Haga, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.

Officials say it appears the crossing arms were down and lights were flashing, but the car didn't stop in time to avoid the collision.

K-15 and 47th Street South were closed because of the accident but has since reopened
