WICHITA, Kansas -- The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating two separate fatal accidents that happened Sunday.

One of the accidents killed a 16-year-old boy from Yates Center.

Austin Reser was a passenger in a car driven by Kody Ratcliff, 16, of Piqua, Kansas.

They were traveling on 800 Street about three miles southwest of Humboldt, in southeast Kansas, just after 4 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers say their car left the road, went into a ditch and struck a tree. The car caught on fire.

Reser died at the scene. Ratcliff was transported to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. His condition is unknown.

The other accident happened about 12:20 a.m. Sunday and took the life of Christopher Robert Hall, 39, of Long Island, Kansas.

Hall was driving his car on K-383 near Almena in northwest Kansas.

Troopers say the car failed to make it around a curve and left the road. It went airborne, rolled and came to a rest after crashing with a railroad bridge. The car then caught on fire.

Hall died at the scene. His passenger, Regina Marie Hall, 35, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Her condition is unknown.
