WICHITA, Kansas -- Wichita police arrested a 22-year-old man after he stole several items from the Walmart store in the 6100 block of West Kellogg.

It happened Sunday evening around 7:20 p.m.

Police say the suspect was confronted by two loss prevention employees at the store.

When they confronted him, he showed a box knife, and then hit one of the victims in the head.

A customer in the parking lot watched the suspect and was able to tackle him.

Police responded and the suspect was taken to the Via Christi St. Francis with several cuts and bruises.

He attempted to run from the emergency room.

Police caught him and he was booked for shoplifting, aggravated assault, battery, and attempted escape from custody.

He also had a warrant and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
