Cards bring in Cedeno

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals signed free-agent infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year contract on Monday.

Cedeno, 29, hit .259 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 78 games for the New York Mets last season. The eight-year veteran made appearances at shortstop, second base and third base.

In addition, the Cardinals announced they have invited 16 non-roster players to Training Camp including outfielder Oscar Taveras and pitcher Seth Maness.

The team also named Bengie Molina, the older brother of catcher Yadier Molina, assistant hitting coach.

To make room for Cedeno on the roster, St. Louis designated pitcher Barret Browning for assignment.
