Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks agreed to release Derek Fisher at the request of the point guard.
Fisher, 38, suffered an injury to his patellar tendon during Tuesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers and wanted to return home to be with his family.
Fisher averaged 8.6 points and 3.6 assists per game in nine games with Dallas after signing with the team on Nov. 29.
