Kansas hoping to lure Boeing's 777X

WICHITA, Kansas - The Boeing 777X is years away from taking to the skies, but it's already become a hot commodity for those who want to lure production of the aircraft here in the Air Capital.
"It's in our DNA. We have that bred into us, and that is not the case in other parts of the country," said Tim Chase, Wichita Economic Development Coalition.
Production for the plane was expected to be in Washington state, but the machinists union there rejected a deal that would have set that in stone.
A Seattle Times report says Boeing has met with leaders from Kansas as well as five other states.
In a statement, the governor's office said quote:
"We have contacted Boeing and expressed interest in bringing the 777X manufacturing to Kansas. Kansas and Boeing have a long and successful history, and the Wichita area is a hub of aviation activity with a skilled workforce."
Local leaders say production of the aircraft in the Air Capital would be a tremendous boost to the economy.
"It would be difficult to overstate the importance and the value of having that production program here in our community," said Dave Unruh, Sedgwick County Commissioner. "Wichita is perhaps the lowest-risk solution for Boeing. By that, I mean you have generations of aviation manufacturers here."
Boeing's CEO said at the Dubai Air Show earlier this week that a decision on where the 777X could be built could come in the next three months, and that they are looking at any location that would make sense.
