Police investigating after a body was found in river

WICHITA, Kansas - Wichita police are investigating after a body of a woman in her twenties was found in the Little Arkansas River near downtown.

The body was found in the 800 block of Back Bay Boulevard just before 2 p.m.

Police have roped off the area as they investigate.

"An individual was walking along the river and observed what he thought was a body in the river. Once he got a little closer, he did verify it was a body floating face down in the river," said Lt. Alan Prince, Wichita Police Department.  "She was face down. It is hard to tell how long she has been in the water."

Police don't know yet if the woman was homeless, and foul play isn't suspected.

Police say they are still early in the investigation.

No other details are being released at this time.
