Why don't we demand more from our Cabs in Wichita? They are just gross. If I were to visit this beautiful city, and my first impression was a cab ride from the Airport, it would leave a bad taste i my mouth; literally. I am embarressed for our city to have these dirty cabs taxing our visitors around our town. I would like to see Fox do an investigation to see what impact it has on our visitors?
I travel frequently and take taxi cabs to and from the airport often, at least twice a month. The Taxi cabs in our town are usually not the most clean but somewhat acceptable. But on this particular day, 10/23/2009 at 3:45 P.M. the cab ride from the Wichita Airport was absolutely disgusting. The Taxi Company is Best Cabs Inc.
At the airport, I went to the Taxi line and asked the first Taxi if he could take me to my destination. He said he could so I proceeded to put my luggage in the trunk of the cab; I did think it was rather odd that he didn't get out of the cab to assist with my luggage, but I put it in the trunk anyway and entered the cab. When I opened the door, I noticed the window of the door was rolled down. When I got into the cab and closed the door I was overwhelmed with an odor, it was very strong and I thought I would be sick. I then knew why the window was down. As soon as I sat in the seat, the driver took off; leaving me little time to make a decision to get out and hire another cab. I noticed the cab didn't have his name or a taxi license posted which I felt was really odd, so I asked him to turn around and take me back. He told me that if he has to turn around that I would have to pay for the full fare back, and I told him that the cab is disgusting and he doesn't have a taxi license and I shouldn't have to pay anything. I then told him just to take me to my destination and I would pay with a check. Originally I was planning to pay with my credit card, but the car and driver were so disgusting that I didn't want him handling my card. He told me that I couldn't pay with check that they don't accept them. At this time, I felt it would be best to contact the office and speak to his supervisor. So I called, 838-2233 and spoke to his supervisor. I explained to him that his cab was the most filthiest cab I have ever been in. That I have to keep my window rolled down because of the horrible smell. And to top it off his driver doesn't even have a license, or so its not posted. He told me that not having a license is just a small fine and no big deal. I told him that I felt unsafe, and didn't want to ride any longer. He said that they would only take cash or credit cards, and that I would have to pay my fare. I told him that I am not going to give the driver my credit card. He told me that I am just trying to get out of a fare and he hung up the phone on me. At this point I just told the driver to take me to my destination and I would get cash. I then called my wife to go to the ATM to get cash. I thought about calling the Police, as there has to be a law against operating a cab with no taxi license. Not to mention imprisoning their customer to use their service even though they do not want to. Is this the way Cab companies operate? Is there any regulations put in place to prevent this from happening?
